1776 was the date of the Declaration of Independence, not the Constitution. the answer is given as 1776. Obviously this is wrong, the correct year is 1787. This book could receive high ratings, however there can be no excusing such basic editing carelessness resulting in what will mislead many citizenship applicants, and conceivably result in some of them failing their test.On page 100, for question 52. When was the Constitution written.
This is one of them. I borrowed this book from the library. It is very helpful especially to immigrants who are non-native English speakers. What I specifically like about this book is that it guides you on how to answer the immigration officer during the interview, what to say, how to reply to the questions, and how to pass the civics test. I wanted to see if it is worth buying and it is. I have read a lot of books to help me prepare for my citizenship interview and so far, I only find 3 books that are truly helpful.
My current student likes this book but I find it to be a bit basic and simple. I am using this book to teach Citizenship class to US residents who want to become citizens. I don't recommend it if your student (or you) want more background knowledge about US government or for more intellectual students who want more in-depth info about US civics and history. It does not provide much explanation or background, but is appropriate for those who are interested in passing the exam and who speak beginner-level English. It is written is simple, basic English. It covers all the possible questions on the citizenship exam and includes sufficient practice exercises and a review section.
Read and learn and you will know more about your new country than most who are born here. Understandable and well organized. Takes you step-by-step through what you need to know as a U.S.Citizen.
It's another story when it comes to some of the folks at USCIS and the whole naturalization process. It was exactly what was tested. one of the few books I found to help study for 2008 test. Have bought one through Amazon and recommended to another person that bought at retail store.
